RC Tyres

In full sized motor sports tires are big business. And there is a very good reason for that. It is because the teams and the manufacturers know that the right tire choice could win or lose them the race. The same runs true for RC cars. Its common sense really. You don't use slicks when it is raining and you don't use spiked tyres on tarmac.

Your choice of tire will make all the difference to the handling of your car. One of the easiest things to change, your tire choice is one thing that will dramatically effect your lap times.

An overview of tire choices:

Block tires - Hard mud or dry mud. Block tires don't work particularly well on wet, muddy conditions as the tread fills with mud and effectively turns your tires into slicks.

Spiked tires - Spiked tires are good all round tires and will work effectively on most surfaces. They provide particularly good grip in muddy conditions.

Sweeper tires - Sweeper tires are the type that you see with a sweeping line across the full width of the tire. They provide more grip in dusty conditions and on sand.

Most kit rc cars will come with tires already glues to the wheels. In order to change the tires you will need to change the wheels, but this usually isn't a bad idea anyway.

The tire choice is something that many people neglect or simply can't be bothered with but if you make the right choice you will have an obvious advantage over the other drivers.
